Mother Stops At Store, Heartbreaking When She Discovers Body Of Her Own…

Posted On : July 16, 2017

Ebony Newman-Sees-Body-1We reported on this story back in 2016, when Ebony Newman had just walked by Superior Liquor & Grocery in San Bernardino and someone told her an 11-year-old boy was among those who had been shot.

The tragic day was July 8, 2016 when Ebony knew there was a shooting at the location, but assumed she didn’t know any of the dead in what at first appeared to be a random act of violence.

The face of the dead child was covered – she didn’t know she had been told the wrong age. She didn’t know that it was her nine-year-old son was the dead boy with his face covered.

Here’s What Happened

Since then it seems the family still doesn’t have any answers in a twist of events that have played out 1 year later.

An employee of the liquor store told the Los Angeles Times the soon-to-be fifth grader had asked his father for some candy before leaving the store. He jumped for joy when his father agreed.

As the trio left the store, Travon happy with his candy selection, a man waiting outside approached and shot dead the three, San Bernardino Police Sgt. Vicki Cervantes said Saturday. The unidentified shooter approached them from behind, pulled a gun and fatally shot them all, she said.

Mahan is believed to be the intended target of the shooter. Travon and his father are not believed to be who the shooter was after. Authorities believe Mahan was the intended target, because he is a documented gang member who was recently paroled.

‘He was my world, and somebody took that away because they were angry,’ she yelled through tears. That’s not right. He didn’t get a chance to live a life.’

An Arrest Was Made, But…

One month after the shooting, an arrest has been made in connection with a triple shooting last week that left the three people dead in San Bernardino.

According to KTLA, in July of last year, Trayvon Brown, 26, was arrested on suspicion of murder, according to a San Bernardino Police Department news release.

One of the men who was killed, (Mahan), shot Brown in an incident that happened at an earlier time.

Trayvon Brown’s booking photo released by San Bernardino police.

After Mahan was killed on July 8, detectives learned that Brown was seen on surveillance cameras inside the liquor store earlier in the day, police said. And that’s why he was arrested.

He Was Released, Family Has No Closure

The suspected shooter in this case was released a few months back. Trayvon Brown has been in custody since July 14, when he was arrested and eventually charged with three counts of murder earlier that month, Christopher Lee, a spokesman for the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office told KTLA.

Investigators had previously thought Brown was targeting Mahan, a known gang member who had recently been paroled, police said.

Brown did not provide a statement to police about the shooting when he was arrested.

No further information about additional arrests was available.

We hope that this doesn’t become a “cold case” and that there is some closure for the family. One year has passed since this tragedy, but maybe reading this story, someone would feel encourage to speak up.
