Suspect Arrested For Murder of Slain Rapper XXXTentacion, As Mother Reveals ‘Gift’ He Left
Just days after the murder of XXXTentacion, a murder suspect has been arrested. On Thursday, June 21, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a shooting suspect in connection with the murder of XXXTentacion. It has been reported that the arrest actually started with a simple traffic stop.
“In just more than 48 hours, #BSO homicide detectives arrested Dedrick Devonshay Williams for the murder of Jahseh Onfroy, also known as XXXTentacion,” the Broward County Sheriff’s Office tweeted alongside a picture of 22-year-old Williams. “Williams (dob 3/23/96) was taken into custody shortly before 7p.m. in Pompano.
“Detectives from BSO’s Strategic Investigations Division assisted homicide detectives by taking Dedrick Williams into custody Wednesday night following a traffic stop,” the Broward County Sheriff’s Office also tweeted. “Detectives are seeking additional suspects. The investigation continues.”
The Traffic Stop:
The New York Times reports Dedrick Devonshay Williams, 22, of Pompano Beach, Fla., was the man arrested during that traffic stop on Wednesday evening. It is unclear why the vehicle was pulled over but the stop ultimately led to Williams’ arrest. According to the arrest record, he is now facing a string of charges including first-degree murder, murder dangerous depraved without premeditation, grand theft of a motor vehicle, and operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license.
In addition to the current charges, Williams reportedly has a lengthy rap sheet with “several felonies, including grand theft auto, domestic violence, cocaine possession and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.” However, USA Today reports that the Florida Department of Corrections offender database indicates he’s never served time behind bars.
Making Good On A Promise:
The arrest of Dedrick Williams comes just days after the Broward County Sheriff’s Office initial statement about XXXTentacion’s death. At the time, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office vowed to solve the murder case.
“We haven’t solved it yet,” Israel said to the commission. “We’ve been working very feverishly on it, our homicide detectives are working around the clock. It’s a horrific crime and we’re going to solve it and we’re going to bring those who did it to justice.”
Following the murder of XXXTentacion, fans immediately took to social media with heightened accusations toward rappers Soldier Kidd and Soldier JoJo. Both of them quickly responded to the allegations via Instagram in hopes of clearing their names and it looks like they’ve done so. However, the fat of the matter still remains: XXXTentacion’s life and career were cut short far too soon.
Shortly after his death, XXXTentacion’s Florida lawyer, David Bogenschutz shared his mother, Cleopatra Bernard’s reaction to the murder. “She is stunned, devastated, somewhat rudderless at this point, she’s a very young mother, 36 or 37, and one of the nicest ladies you’d ever meet,” said Bogenschutz, “When a door closes that fast and that violently, it takes a day or two before it hits you. It’s been very, very difficult.”
However, she’s revealed she still has something to smile about. Bernard’s latest Instagram post is going viral because she’s shared details about the ultimate gift she’s received that serves as a significant reminder of her son.
Despite the gut-wrenching loss, the slain rapper’s mother has opened up about the bittersweet part of her son’s death. Yesterday, Bernard took to Instagram with a photo of an ultrasound. With the photo she wrote, “He left us a final gift.”
In less than 24 hours, the photo has gone viral with nearly 500,000 likes and more than 40,000 comments from adoring fans. As expected, fans are already wondering who is the mother of the unborn baby. But, according to TMZ, insiders have confirmed the woman carrying XXXTentacion’s baby is not his ex-girlfriend, Geneva Ayala, who he was accused of abusing. However, the woman’s name has yet to be revealed.
